January 3, 2018 BrightVolt expands at the Battery Innovation Center, advances energy storage with $500,000 from Radius Indiana CRANE, Ind. and NEWBERRY, Ind. - With a $500,000 in matching funds from Radius Indiana, BrightVolt has expanded in the Battery Innovation Center within WestGate@Crane Technology Park and Purdue@WestGate community. The move enables BrightVolt to create new lab space, job positions and battery prototype manufacturing for its design, development and manufacturing of safe, thin and flexible batteries. The expansion also helps BrightVolt and the Battery Innovation Center (BIC) to collaborate more closely to improve the capacity and flexibility of energy storage. “BrightVolt brings award-winning battery technology to WestGate@Crane Technology Park,” said Ben Wrightsman, chief operating officer at the Battery Innovation Center. “BIC will enable BrightVolt to develop the next generation of thin-film rechargeable solid-state battery technology.” Radius Indiana is a regional collaboration leading the way in economic development in Southwest Central Indiana. “Through our Regional Impact Fund, we were able to offer up to $500,000 in matching funds to help bring BrightVolt to our community,” said Jeff Quyle, Radius Indiana chief executive officer. “BrightVolt’s innovative technology and partnership with the Battery Innovation Center will allow them to be a growing company in our region.” Innovators and the public recently attended an open house at the Battery Innovation Center to learn about the latest developments in battery storage capabilities. Attendees toured the facilities, watched safety demonstrations and learned about core battery technology. “The BrightVolt open house was a great opportunity to connect our technology with regional innovators,” said Todd Peters, BrightVolt chief executive officer. “This partnership has the potential to develop safe, clean battery technologies that can be used across a wide range of industries throughout the world.” About the Battery Innovation Center The Battery Innovation Center is a public-private partnership and not-for-profit organization that incorporates leadership from world-class universities, commercial enterprises and government organizations to focus on rapid development, testing and commercialization of safe, reliable and lightweight energy storage systems for commercial and defense organizations.
