Greene County Daily World: Go Red for Women luncheon focuses on heart health education

Via Greene County Daily World The second annual Go Red for Women luncheon will aim to educate women about heart health and raise money for the American Heart Association. The event is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 28 at WestGate Academy and Conference Center. Doors will open at 10 a.m., with adult hands-only CPR and AED training. Speakers will present at noon and lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m., catered by Simply Delicious Catering. Event co-organizer Karen Cook said the overall goal is education, which is why the Go Red for Women event added two CPR classes to the agenda this year. Julie Collins, a registered nurse at Greene County General Hospital who focuses on inservice education, will be leading the two CPR sessions -- one will start at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Cook said while the classes will not get participants officially certified, the sessions will provide the necessary education in the event of an emergency. Greene County General Hospital Chief Nursing Officer Lee Ann Camp will once again be a guest speaker at the event. Last year, Camp explained GCGH is a “critical access hospital,” which means the staff are on hand to provide stabilization then transfer the patient to a hospital equipped to deal with specific issues when needed. But, GCGH has grown significantly in recent years and added service to ensure patrons do not have to travel long distances to see specialists.
