Via Greene County Daily World The first Get Outdoors Day took place Friday afternoon at the WestGate Technology Park. The day was meant to get people interested in taking part in outdoor activities and leading a healthier lifestyle, according to Director of Business Operations STIMULUS Engineering Kimberly Frazier. 'It was a little crazy how many people showed up early,' Frazier said. 'It was a very nice surprise.' Frazier stated the program had anticipated around 500 people to attend. 'We gave the kids Bingo activity cards they could fill out by taking part in activities,' Frazier said. 'It's a good way to get everybody to do everything.' The cards, once filled in, would be placed in buckets for prizes. Volunteer Tim Kinder said area schools were taking part in the day. 'I'm hoping to see hundreds of people here today,' Kinder said. 'It's a beautiful day out and it will really show that there's more than sitting inside.' Kinder recommended that people visit the dunk booth. Attendants Derrick and Misty Pufford, along with their children, said the day had been a lot of fun since they had arrived. 'It's a great idea for a family day,' Misty said. 'We're really looking forward to going to the archery range,' Derrick said. The archery range was led by the Department of Natural Resources. According to Martin County DNR officer Eric Doone, the Get Outdoors Day is one event the DNR attends. 'We go to a lot of places, such as Evansville and Washington,' Boone said. 'The idea is to get people outdoors, so we brought a lot of outdoor vehicles, set up the archery range and have a collection of furs that the kids can see and touch if they want to.' Boone said there had been about 20 to 25 visitiors to his booth at the time of this interview and he was anticipating a lot more throughout the day. The event lasted from noon to 8 p.m.
