Difference Maker Banquet held in Linton

In a room just large enough to hold the collected good works and compassion of the ten finalists, the Greene County Daily World held its “Difference Makers” banquet Thursday evening, at the Goose Pond Lodge and Retreat in Linton. GCDW publisher Chris Pruett kicked off the event by thanking several others for making the evening possible, including Difference Maker co-sponsor UDWI REMC, Goose Pond Lodge & Retreat owner Mark Bartlow, caterer Tom Ridinger of Town & Country of Jasonville, Jared Albright of Amplified Tech Services, GCDW general manager Christy Lehman and the staff of GCDW. Pruett explained the Difference Maker selection process, for which a panel of independent judges was engaged to trim the list of nominees to 10, and another set of judges made the final decision. The evening’s agenda included the catered meal, an address by keynote speaker Lonnie Bedwell of Dugger and an introduction by Pruett and Lehman of each of the 10 Difference Maker finalists, joined for the evening by those who nominated them for the title. Pruett defined Difference Makers as “The people in our community who make a difference in our daily lives. They volunteer their time to help others and their community. They do what is needed when it is needed.” The Difference Maker of the Year will receive a monetary gift, gift certificates from Cinco De Mayo restaurant in Lyons, Sportsmans Pub in Linton, LaFiesta in Linton, Asian Buffet in Linton, Pizza Villa/Francisco De Borja in Linton, Patrick’s Restaurant in Sullivan and a year’s subscription to the Greene County Daily World’s print and digital editions. The evening’s honorees included: Debbie Bender of Worthington, Marcy Cook of Bloomington, John Cotter of Linton, Jim O’Malley of Bloomfield, Brian Romans of Bloomfield, Dennis Sullivan of Linton, Kenny Tharp of Switz City, Ralph Witty of Linton, Joe Wise of Jasonville and Lavon Yoho of Solsberry.
