Romans has set a goal of $600,000 for the foundation to start its acquisition of land for the Romans Warrior Foundation Veterans Retreat.
Acquiring land is Romans first step in a vision he describes as 'a haven providing three or four day retreats for military veterans across the country, at no cost to them.'The planned retreat will begin with the construction of two cabins, each of them dedicated to a fallen Marine who served with Romans in Iraq or Afghanistan. The first cabin will be dedicated to Corporal Ronald Raymond Payne Jr. USMC, of Lakeland, Fla., and the second to Cpl. Benjamin S. Rosales, of Houston.
Cpl. Payne was killed in action at age 23 due to hostile action in the vicinity of Tawara, Afghanistan on May 7, 2004, and was the first Marine to die of hostile fire in Afghanistan.
