Hypersonics Research Overview
November 11, 2020
November 11, 2020 Purdue@WestGate teamed up with Dr. Dan DeLaurentis, Director of the Institute of Global Security and Defense Innovation at Purdue University, to host an Overview of Hypersonics Research. DeLaurentis expressed the need for collaboration between universities, the government and industry to execute the multidisciplinary research necessary to develop technologies that can be manufactured at scale. Purdue possesses one of the largest interdisciplinary team of hypersonic research experts that brings great depth and breadth of experience in basic and applied research for next-generation hypersonic systems. “Purdue University has an exceptionally strong, cross-disciplinary team all focused on a common vision, centered around design. Yet, on a broader picture, hypersonics at Purdue is a success story via future partnerships,” said DeLaurentis. Collaborations with University of Notre Dame, Indiana University and IN3 (Indiana Innovation Institute) set the Hypersonic ecosystem apart, such as Notre Dame and Purdue collaborating to mutually step up Quiet Hypersonic wind tunnels, while IU adds advanced computation infrastructure, modeling and simulation. “Indiana, because of our historical commitment to aeronautical engineering and advanced computational technologies, is positioned to be a national leader in the critical technology enabling Hypersonic travel,” said Jason Salstrom, Director, Purdue@WestGate. “It is time for Indiana to plant our flag tall in the Hypersonics community, with concerted leadership demonstrating Hoosier capabilities.” Purdue@WestGate hosts several monthly webinars that deep dive into topics within the defense industry, entrepreneurship and personal development.
