The fair was well attended in its second year thanks to the advent of a scholarship opportunity, funded with proceeds from the May 2014 5K race, “Running for Our Future.” The race’s platinum sponsors, Artisan Electronics, Inc., the Battery Innovation Center (BIC), Raydar, Inc., and STIMULUS Engineering Services, Inc. helped to fund the scholarships. Representatives from Artisan, BIC, and STIMULUS were on hand to congratulate the winning seniors, who had to be present to win. Two $500 scholarships were awarded to Logan N. Albright from Shoals Jr/Sr High School for his essay, “Demining the World,” and to Cecilia Craig from Bloomfield High School for her essay, “Purifying Water Using Solar Energy.” The $1,000 scholarship was presented to Blakely N. Heaton of Bloomfield High School for her essay, “Transferring Energy to Make Clean Water Possible Everywhere.” Organizer, Melissa Pittman, was pleased with the turnout of schools and students. “This is our second year, and we have grown a lot. More colleges and universities are here, and this is the first time we’ve been able to offer scholarships. Next May, we hope to continue the ‘Running for Our Future’ 5K, which will mean even more scholarship opportunities for next year’s college fair.”###
