ODON - Minnesota-based SkyWater Technology (Nasdaq: SKYT), a manufacturer of semiconductors, has announced plans to open research space at the WestGate@Crane Technology Park in Odon. The company says it is a U.S. Department of Defense-accredited supplier, which prompted it to open a facility near the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division.
In July, Skywater executives met with Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb to discuss its ongoing collaboration with the U.S. government and opportunities in Indiana to support increased domestic semiconductor manufacturing.
“SkyWater is well-suited to meet the critical needs of the U.S. government as well as commercial customers requiring U.S.-based manufacturing operations,” said Skywater President and Chief Executive Officer Thomas Sonderman. “In addition, we are excited to engage with top universities located in Indiana and access their pipeline of high-quality talent to develop new and disruptive technologies.”
The tech company many of NSWC Crane’s efforts focus on advancing DOD-unique capabilities in radiation hardened electronics and radio-frequency technology was an additional draw.
Radiation hardening is a process of making electronic components resistant to radiation, whether it is in outer space, near nuclear reactors or nuclear warfare
