The Daviess County Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau and the Daviess County Economic Development Corporation  held their annual banquet at WestGate Academy November 17, 2016. This article includes some of the winners from the awards banquet. Via Washington Times Herald Three honorees received the prestigious Hagel Award at the annual Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development banquet on Thursday. Presented by Chamber of Commerce Board President Melody Brunson, the winners included: Washington Mayor Joe Wellman
His accomplishments include: Washington Redevelopment Commission, Look Foward Washington, Daviess County Economic Development, formerly as the Growth Council, Daviess County d Way, Washington Schools’ long-range facilities planner, WHS School Improvement Committee, Our Lady of Hope parish council, choir and finance commission, two Optimist International Clubs, Washington Rotary, Washington Moose, and twice been in The Promise. Elected in 2011, for the last five years served as Mayor of Washington, where he has worked tirelessly at community and economic development. Wellman’s vision 18 months ago turned into a yearlong Bicentennial Celebration for the City of Washington in 2016. Terri Kelso Volunteer work for the past 30 years, PTO, Boy Scout Leader, St. Jude’s, Friends of the Odon Library, active in Junior Achievement, the Daviess County Community Giving Fund, Daviess and Martin County Chambers of Commerce, as well as the Daviess County Chamber Board of Directors, Daviess County Republican Women, Classical Club and Washington Friends of the Library. Also, the Odon Business Association, Eagle View Golf Club, and Washington Rotary, where she helped chair two gala events which raised thousands of dollars for charity. The Daviess County CEO program and high school internship programs, where she helps young people learn about business at her business, Kelso Insurance. Her own Investment Club and the city of Washington’s Economic Development Board. This year she co-chaired the city’s bicentennial yearlong event. Don Spillman
Longtime teacher at Washington Junior High, where he taught history for 42 years. Washington Kiwanian, Sunday School teacher at Christ United Methodist for the Lamplighters, Daviess County Community Foundation’s WISH program, volunteer for the WJHS Reality Store, and coach for boys and girls track, basketball and football. Also, longtime member of the Washington Board of Zoning Appeals, where he now is chairman, announcer for the WHS boys and girls basketball home games, Daviess County Historical Society, and this year he also co-chaired the city’s bicentennial event. — Melody Brunson, Times Herald
