Commemorating Naval Support Activity Crane's 75 anniversary, WestGate@Crane is happy to host parking for the following event open to the public. Via Washington Times Herald CRANE — In recognition of the installation’s 75th anniversary, Naval Support Activity Crane is hosting a daylong celebration that is free and open to the public Oct. 22 at the base’s sports complex just outside the main gate. The event will have activities for the entire family, including inflatables, outdoor activities, a vendor village and more. “By having this celebration off base, we can bring the community and the base together,” said Jeff M. Nagan, an installation spokesperson. “For the last 75 years, the community has been integral to our success. To show our appreciation, we wanted this event to be open to the public.” Vendors include food sales and goods by local and area artisans. “Between the vendors and the outdoor activities, there’s something for everyone,” added Nagan. The Commodore Run half-marathon and 5-kilometer race will be going on at the same time. With the public, friends and families cheering, runners will start and finish their respective race near the sports complex, with the route taking them on the base. “Since the event is open to the public, entire families can be there to cheer runners on,” said Nagan. “This is a great way for the community to come together in a positive way.” As for the day of the event, parking is at the WestGate Academy, with shuttles running throughout the day. Runners should arrive between 6 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. to pick up their packets. The half-marathon begins at 9 a.m. with the 5K run/walk starting at 9:30 a.m. The award ceremony kicks off at 11 a.m. For more information about registering for the Commodore Run, visit the event websitewww.discovermwr.com/commodorerun.
